About us
Today, there are at least 2.2 billion people across the world who cannot see clearly. At least 1 billion of them just need, but cannot access, a basic pair of glasses. It is predicted that 200 million children are expected to be short sighted by 2050. And almost all of them live in low-income countries.
Our vision: no one should live in poverty because of poor eyesight and no one should live with poor eyesight because of poverty.
Vision Action aim to make eye care accessible and affordable overseas. Whether you are a school pupil in Ethiopia, a teacher in Ghana, a seamstress in Sierra Leone, or a mother providing for her family in Zambia. Poor eye sight can have a devastating impact on your life and livelihood.
“These are some of the poorest people in the world, but also the most in need of eye tests and glasses. You see, having poor eyesight means that you can’t educate yourself or get a job, so you are destined to remain poor for the rest of your life.” Ismail, Optometry Technician, Sierra Leone
Vision Action is helping the world to see through innovative programmes that reach out to some of the most remote communities throughout Africa. This has been our mission since 1989 and we will continue until everyone across Africa has access to basic eye care.
